RSS Setup Instructions

Windows XP Microsoft Outlook

Installation instructions for RSS on Windows XP Microsoft Outlook.

  1. Download RSS Popper

Download the "RSS Popper" extension for Microsoft Outlook, at the following website: RSS Popper Download Site

Click on the download link for "RSS for Outlook : Release", and download the file to your computer.

  2. Install RSS Popper

Making sure that Microsoft Outlook is not running (close it down if it is running), double-click the downloaded executable file, to begin installation of RSS Popper. Follow the instructions on the installation screens to complete the install.

  3. Open Microsoft Outlook

When opened, you should now be able to see a new toolbar with RSS options.

Click in the square marked "RSS is OFF", to turn RSS on.

You have now successfully activated RSS services for Microsoft Outlook.

  4. Set up your RSS Feeds

Click in the square marked "RSS Popper", and select "Edit Feeds...".

You will be presented with the following window:

(All the feeds listed can be safely deleted if you have no intention of using them.)

Click on "New >>" and select "RSS/Atom Feed...".

In the Feed Information settings window, fill in the WestEndAgents.com RSS link, in the "Link" box.

    http://www.westendagents.com/wea_rss/

"Refresh Interval" is the number of seconds between each time the feed is "refreshed" (ie. how often the program checks for new items on the feed). You can set this number to anything you like, with 60 being the minimum possible value (1 minute). Leave the field blank to have the feed refresh at the same intervals as Outlook checks for new E-mail.

The program will then gather the rest of the Feed Information automatically, so you do not need to fill out the other fields.

Finally, click on the "Authentication" tab. You may get an error message saying "Failed to receive title from feed". This is normal and does not mean there has been any problem so far. Click 'OK' on that box, and you should go through to the Authentication area.

Click the option marked "Custom". In the adjacent boxes, enter the email address you used to register with WestEndAgents.com, and your WestEndAgents.com password.

    Press "OK".

Your RSS Feed is now set up, and will update itself automatically

The other feeds and folders under "RSS" (ie. 'Entertainment', 'News', 'Politics'...) can safely be deleted if you do not intend to use them.
